Why Hat Yai?
Hatyai sits within the province of Songkhla, which is at the border of Malaysia. The Thai government affirms Songkhla to play the major role in facilitating trade growth with Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore. The current value of trade between Thailand and Malaysia itself is approximately THB500 billion annually and is expected to grow with the development of industrial parks and enhanced transportation corridors like the North-South Economic Corridor (NSEC).
Given the close proximity with the two main Muslim countries in Southeast Asia (Indonesia and Malaysia), the province’s main food trade focus includes Halal food production and processed seafood industry. Currently Thailand is ranked first in ASEAN for halal exports with over 120,000 Thai-made halal products & services.
